Learning Goals and Technology Plans

What is one way you have already used, or plan to use, technology to support your learning goals for students?
What assistance would you like?

  1. I have been learning about how to use Voicethread in the ed.voicethread setting, and supporting teachers in setting up projects to match curricular goals.
The help I need is just experience working with my Groton friends on this.

  2. So far I have attempted to schedule at least 2 "technology" lessons each week. I have introduced the kids to the netbooks and they all know how to log on and logon to learning.com. The kids have all tried a few of the Easy Tech lessons (most caught on easily). I wanted to show the kids how to create an idea web for our bat unit, so Linda N. helped me get them through the Easy Tech lesson on using a visual mapping program to make an idea web, followed by a quick introduction to Kidspiration. They all had a chance to fool around with an idea web on megabats or microbats.

The kids tried out the keyboarding lesson on homerow, but all found it too much to digest in one lesson. We now have them enrolled in Type to Learn, so will give that a whirl next week.

Theresa and I written our APPR to use Voicethread for formative assessment throughout the year in math. We met with Andy to help us think through what and how we might do to get started. Thanks to Theresa, we are just about set to introduce the kids to Voicethread using a formative assessment on money.

  3. My first EZ tech lesson was a challenge...kids struggled with logging in but once they were it it was good. Also, there was a bit of confusion as to what a lesson is on EZ tech. It turned out to be a worksheet :( I wish it were clearer!!
I'm looking forward to meeting with Andy on voicethread. I'm wondering about students being able to give feedback to students that read books to the class. Also, I'm wondering if students can read their books on voicethread and others can respond...I'm sure Andy can send me in the right direction.
Linda has also been helping me add some sites to our second grade favorites and to my wiki. She's also been good at trouble shooting too!!!
I'm fixing up my wiki, and always in search of websites, video clips and ways to enhance my lessons.

  4. I would like to set up a voice thread as part of a behavior managment piece for a student with autism. I would like to see photos modeling appropriate behaviors/responses, and utilize a variety of people to comment, for example, his mom, to support this student throughout the day. Help! is needed, however :)

  5. I have introduced Voicethread to my students. The students used Voicethread to create a presentation for their parents at Open House. I took pictures of our activities throughout the day and the students provided the commentary, explaining what a typical day is like in our classroom.
We also have been learning about Powerpoint so that we can create Powerpoint presentations for our independent reading books each month.

  6. Nancy T and I are working on voicethreads as part of our APPR for this year. We have created the group of students from Nancy's homeroom and created the slides. We are hoping to begin recording students this week as they count the coins on the slides.
I have also been working on the starboard which is housed in the Math Center. I found some interesting virtual manipulatives that also allow students to count out $1 or count the bills and coins on the screen.
Andy and Linda have assisted me(us) with these activites.

  7. I have utilized the ELMO and projected books for my readers to explore together. We have technology lessons scheduled for Thursday of this week that support keyboarding and the letter/sound relationships that are my current ELA focus, Linda is coming in to assist with this.

  8. We used Voicethread to present our daily schedule at open house. I took pictures throughout the day and had the students respond using their identities. The students have also played Treasure Math Storm to work on facts and Cashflow for Kids to learn how money can work for them.
I have shared Powerpoints with them and they are about to create their own presentation about an independent book they have recently finished.

  9. I am using the lap tops and our 4 stand alone computers in the library for a new library program called Destiny Quest. I have been working at teaching them how to use it and to be able to search for books here in the library. We will later in the year begin to use the library databases as well. To do all of this we have been using laptops and the document camera. I am going to be taking a course on google earth and how to use it with literature this coming week and I will let you know what help I may need with that afterwords.
At this point I still want to know about voice threads, but need to let the blog I will be using as a book talk in the library sink in. I need to practice that a bit more before adding the voice threads to it.

  10. I am hoping to incorporate voice threads with Writer's Workshop as a way for my students to share their writing with classmates.
