Got New DNA?

Please take a couple minutes to watch the video below.
What changes do you want to make or continue developing in your teaching? What support might you need?

  1. I told Andy two weeks ago that I don't know what to say about this and I still don't. Maybe I don't have that DNA to teach with these new learners. They experience so much around them that is new and exciting and they expect that we will be new and exciting. I'm not a jump right in kind of person - I am cautious and worry too much.

    Students....
    -Deserve Needed Adaptation
    -Do Need Attention
    -Donate New Attitudes
I, as a teacher still, need to be in creative, collaborative, communicative environment more myself.
Hmm, ...Define Next Area for exploration.

  3. I believe that learners must construct their own knowledge... and so the idea that teachers and learners are co-constructors of learning and knowledge makes sense to me.... Using current technology as a tool in this process also makes sense. This year, I am increasing my skills and comfort level using technology. As a result, I have a greater comfort level using the technology with my students. Knowing that I have human resources to support me has helped me tremendously! I feel like I have given my students the opportunity to develop skills in using computers as tools to learn and reinforce skills, access information, and share/present their work/ideas. I would like to continue learning new ways to use technology with my students to enhance the curriculum.

  4. New DNA- sounds like a drastic idea to me. I think teachers evolve and change to meet the needs of their students. I believe that we are doing a great job of continuing to give students access to technology and computer skills they will need to develop skills that will be used to learn. As technology evolves I believe teachers, students and society does as well....

  5. I think new DNA is a great idea. I think change is good because it gives students a chance to learn new things a different way. Also, using computer seem to be more engaging for students. Students are able to learn about techology and how it works. I think using technology in the classroom can be a little bit scary for teachers and may be a little bit time consuming right now (learning the different ways to use it in the classroom). I believe that using technology will get easier and a lot more teachers will be incorporating it into their everyday instruction.

  6. Andy-
I tried to do my job! For some reason, this video isn't showing up for me, just a large white box. The other videos below in the blog thread are there, so, not too sure what's going on. I will try again Monday-- Just wanted you to know I wasn't ignoring it all!

  7. I would like to add more time devoted to the technology that is available with the students. I feel that there is so much out there that is valuable, but don't seem to have the time or the computers to do it with. I need more computers in the library so that the students can at least pair up and work. I also would like time to just be able to play and find what works the best for the students and that goes with the curriculum. I'm not sure what I want to follow up on as I don't even know where to begin most of the time. It is a daunting task to look at and follow up on the websites, programs, etc. that are out there to use. I receive a magazine that helps me in the library, but it actually becomes overwhelming with the number of web sites it refers you to. I really appreciate all that you and Linda do for us.

  8. Very intersting video about industrial age thinking in our schools. Our governement wants a population of people who follow the mold. It's divergent thinkers who "rock the boat". Technology is a good start, however our schools create workers for a society regardless if it's technology or a trade. Why is it so important to our society... our world to have so much technological knowledge? Is it so we can fit in with the rest of society. Education is like Animal Farm-do what's best for everybody, not ourselves as individuals. Perhaps we rely too heavily on technology. The DNA of teachers is what our government tells us to teach or we will be cut off financially. I feel the man is incorrect to say the teachers need to change, we still teach what the state and federal government mandates hence the push for teaching technology. Hmmm.

  9. I can't stop thinking about the video. I feel better though after reading Mr. Brecht's comment.
